Getting more members
« on: June 06, 2010, 08:47:58 AM »
Anyone got a good idea of getting/finding new members for the boards? Right now there's a small but very active group of members and of course that's great but new blood is also required to stay alive. I added this site to Google's database by using their Webmaster Helpprogram meaning this forum should be easier/quicker to find through a Google search but that alone won't suffice. I'm open to suggestions.

I already put a link to this forum in most of my forum accounts.

I also put a link into my signature at all relevant boards I'm a member of, I also tried to make a banner but I'm having some technical difficulties with the height of the banner because it's not very clear how to increase the height of the space in which  the banner is shown.

Since I am playing Blood, I was wondering about recording a play-through and put a link to this forum in the description and video. Maybe creating some forum sigs would be handy aswell.

I'll try to finish up that forumbanner but finding good pictures to use isn't easy. Or maybe designing a nice logo would be handy. I'm open for ideas.

Edit;
First try;

I have placed a forum banner, if you don't see it just hit Ctrl + F5 to force a complete reload of the current page.

I like the format... :)

I would like to suggest, if it doesn't seem too cluttered, adding a small representative image from each of the major game developers hits...
Like something from Apogee or 3D Realms (like you have Duke already)
Then something from id Software like an old classic DooM character image...

The reason I say this is because of this... maybe it is my age, but if someone said "Quick without thinking, list games that come to mind!" I would say...
DooM
Heretic
HeXen
Duke Nukem
Quake
and it would go from there...  But this would be point of view based on someone gaming history though.
Sad to say, but I don't even know two of the characters in the image... Unless the second character from the left is from the Tenchu Series... but I am not sure.

What do you think?

Also I collect Shovelware/compilations/official add-ons for most PC FPS's. :)

I'll stick to the current banner for now, of course I had to depict Duke Nukem larger then the rest. ;) It now features, the Duke, Mario, Lara Croft, the Overlord en Frost (Mortal Kombat).

It also needs to have much variety because these boards don't solely focus on old FPS games.

Hehe, very nice work. I have to agree with MrBlackCat, the Doom guy should be in there... for obvious reasons ;)

But seriously, the banner fits the forum style now. I'm not sure more character should be added since it would probably make it to crowded. There is one thing that annoys me though. There is a small gray "remainder of something" all the way to the left of the banner. Is that something in the background of the forum or indeed some error?

I just figured out what it is, just give me a few moments to fix it.

Edit;
Uploading the original main_block.png instead of the edited one fixed it. It still contained an old version of the banner. Hit Ctrl + F5 to force a complete refresh.

Yup, that did it.

By the way, I recognize Duke, Lara and Mario, who are the two other characters?
