Last game you played
« on: May 16, 2010, 03:34:16 PM »
Like on other forums, post what game you last played.

I'm currently addicted to Torchlight, a really cool and simple hack 'n slash RPG from the awesome minds who brought us games like Diablo. I bought it on Steam but there's a retail release of the game as well.

I have been playing through Duke Nukem Mobile on the Tapwave Zodiac.  The graphics are on par with the PC version of the original Duke 3D, but the game is much smaller and WAY simpler... super simple AI etc.  The levels are basically one hallway with a couple of branches each.  The whole game may cover the area of three levels of the original Duke Nukem 3D.
If I do a review of the game I will post it here on the site...

What about a thread for reviews?

Just make a new topic for reviews in General discussion, if enough reviews are posted I'll create a new forumsection for it.

Just played a little Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back on the Game Boy (Game Boy Light Actually).

I have not played it much... still in the ice caves with the Probe Droids and Wampas.  Considering this game is from 1992, a Movie Exploit game, and is Original Game Boy hardware, it is a pretty good side scroller.  The cave system is pretty large. Took a few screen shots and uploaded them in case anyone is interested.  (Very few shots)  Capture on this weak screen is... rather weak.  I would play original Game Boy games on an Advance or SP and sometimes do, but the fake colors just aren’t appealing to me for most games.  So 90% of the time I play on my Game Boy Light... I know, I know, they aren’t mean to be played on, collectors item etc etc, but I am a Gamer, not a collector. :)  I paid for it (a lot) so I can play on it till it wears out.  Mine is the Japanese Toys R Us Exclusive clear yellow version and it was almost new!  I have been trying to get a cheaper one to use to play on and save this one for special occasions, but these things seldom slip through the cracks on eBay and the like as they are all imports.  The Game Boy Light version was never sold in the US.

Alan Wake

Amazing game. It can easily stand as my "Game of the Year" already, Remedy really did an amazing job on this. Facial animation is a bit rough, but I've seen a lot worse. But the story, presentation, atmosphere... it's just... wow.

Doom II (Xbox LIVE)

I finished the new episode NERVE made for the LIVE release. That was horrible. It was horribly paced, levels were badly designed... bad enemy placement, bad ammo/health placement... just... meh. Finished it, got the achievement... not touching it again. Ever.
Now working my way through regular Doom 2 on Ultra Violence. A bit tougher on the 360 than on PC, but still pretty easy. :)

Wolfenstein (PC)

I'm sort of on my own here, but I love the Wolf than Raven did. It really feels like an appropriate follow up to Return to Castle Wolfenstein. Love it.

You mean Return to Castle Wolfenstein?

If that is the one you mean, I consider it the best linear (old school feel) First Person Shooter for the PS2... again, the qualifiers being linear and Old School.  It was like DooM with modern graphics and modern story... gameplay felt the same as playing the old FPS's like Wolfenstein and Corridor 7.

I was talking about the newest Wolfenstein game, the one released last year. Developed by Raven Software.

Here's a few screens....

It got a bunch of negativity because the MP was basically trash. But the studio that did the MP was canned shortly after, Raven developed the single player... and it's awesome. Feels like classic Wolf.

Can't stand the "new" Wolf. No armor, health regeneration, not even a frigging health bar or anything like that and what's up with those auto closing doors? Clearly meant for consoles.

Ohhh... Ok.
I foret about that game.  I don't have any modern computer or console to run this game... yet.

I will go watch some game play.

I still think Return to Castle Wolfenstein was awesome... :)

My annual run through Blood v1.21 now at the end of episode 2.

Damn, I just don't get people who say say these games suck... they can't look past through the shell (graphics) and see the beautiful butterfly inside.  ;D

I completely ignore mainstream gamers now ... they just seem more interested in pimping their pc's with useless lights and glow in the dark stuff and playing the most demanding games known to man on ultra-high with 8x AA (btw, nearly completely useless at high resolutions if you ask me).  And the most disturbing thing is, most of them don't even own the pc games they have installed. Its just sad to see. And I'm not saying this because I hate them... Once I went to a lan-party (In the time of Age of Mythology and UT2003) and seriously I can understand if you use a crack to play without the cd's (and sometimes workaround ridiculous copy protections) but that was just a copy over LAN fest. I asked some guys how many games they owned, instead they showed my their directory full of images and ISO's -___- and told me they rarely bought games. Way to go to support your hobby indeed.  ::)

I understand what you mean (Remmke) about people who steal games, and people who claim a game sucks just because something with better graphics came out.  There has been thousands of arguments about the importance of gameplay vs graphic quality.
To me, after graphics reach a certain level (e.g. DooM) then GamePlay kicks in and matters the most.
Level complexity and environment detail are also factors that can enhance a game. (e.g. HeXen original... leaves blowing in the wind, environmental sounds (like that cool owl) etc.

I am playing Age of Empires II: Age of Kings. :)

Age of Empires 2 : The Conqueros, last campaign (Aztec)

And Defense Grid (only payed 2 eu for this gem, and already played it for 31 hours!) Simple but addictive gameplay. Recently bought the two map packs for 0,90 euro. I wonder if it is possible for people in the US to give gifts to people in Europe on Steam since the prices are basically 1$=1€? Could save some money this way. :P
