MrBlackCat... an introduction.
« on: May 23, 2010, 09:46:06 PM »
Hello fellow members... I guess this could go in an about me type section.  I am sure Iggy will help sort all this out as he works out the layout of this new system.

Thank you Iggy for setting up this system.  I have wanted something like this for a long time... thought of trying it myself for years also as I no longer have my own public website.
Nice to be here.  :)

First...
I wanted to make something clear as this bothers me with some people...
I never want to come across like I am showing off my collection(s) for the sake of playing the "I have one and you don't" game... and I never want to come across like me having knowledge of something you do not relative to games is something I don't want to share.
The main reason I am here is to share what I know and have been lucky enough to find and learn about...
I would like to ask that you help me learn and grow my collection as well.
I don't know everything, and I hope I never come across like I think I do... I just want to add to something I enjoy and I never want to take from what you enjoy.

I just want our exchanges and posts to help each of us and others to grow their collections into something that adds to the happiness in their lives as my collection does for me.

About Me:
My primary game collection is PC 3D First Person Shooters, mostly DOS and almost all DooM-a-Likes.  I don't collect Third Person games, or other types of First Person games like Mech, Racing, Flight, games and so on.  There are a few exceptions to this.
Due to being so many games out there in this range I collect, I now generally limit my collection to Boxed games and mostly Big Boxed games.  The exceptions to this would be Add-ons and shovelware compilations that were never offered boxed.  If it came in a box, I am going to get it that way or probably not get it at all.

In addition to PC games I have other computer systems including:
Commodore Vic20
Commodore 16
Commodore 64 (and SX)
Tandy Color Computer
And some others.

I also play many console games:
Atari Jaguar
HyperScan
Nintendo
Super Nintendo
Nintendo 64
Sega Genesis
Sega Saturn
PS1
PS2
Some other modern systems that play Genesis, NES, and SNES games...

I play handhelds more than consoles lately as I have no proper computer/game room.
Game Boy
Game Boy Pocket
Game Boy Light
Game Boy Color
Game Boy SP (1st and 2nd generations)
Game Boy Micro
Nintendo DS (lite)
Tapwave Zodiac T2
Sega Game Gear
NeoGeo Pocket Color
Atari Lynx (second generation)
Tiger Game.Com
PSP (3000)
Some others more obscure and some modern hybrids etc.

I also like the modern “Plug n Play” games as they are simple games on simple architecture that I am most familiar with and enjoy.
I have about 40 of these... no need to list them unless someone else collects these.

With some titles I really like, I also collect supporting merchandise.  Duke Nukem “stuff” would be a good example as I collect all Duke Nukem games and related items.  Quake is another.  From Figures to Soundtracks to posters, if I really like a game, I will likely have as much related material as I can find.

Another example is an old PS1 title... Metal Gear Solid.  If youknow this game and remember the room where you fight Ocelot, here is another thing I do... I build something.  I don’t keep Action Figures in their boxes, I play with them... some... and build scenes like this for them. (several images in the group if you are interested)

You get the idea.  I enjoy most any of the game systems made in the last 25 years.
I am a gamer far more than a collector as I play or have intentions to play most every game I have.  In a spreadsheet I track every game I have and if I have played it and to what level/stage/score I have achieved per game.

I will likely revise this from time to time as it changes.  :)

LOL!  Cool... thank you.
(I hope the cane goes with the TopHat... I am not old enough to use a cane yet!)

Thanks. :)

Have not posted in here for a while, but decided to start again because...
I will post pictures of the progression of my computer room in here.

First here is me standing in my future computer room!  And without a gaming shirt on... very rare.  My cousin gave me this shirt, so I took a picture to show him I actually would wear it.  Only because it is a shirt of the RootBeer I drink every day for years. ;)

All outside windows you see will be blocked to control light.  Two walls will be added and two new doors installed where is not just open around the fireplace which sits in the middle of two larger rooms.

Not much will happen now as I solidify the plan, accumulate materials and begin wiring.  I am adding a 100 AMP panel to carry all the load that will be in the room.
I will explain more as plans are thought out and completed.

Here we go...

COOL!  You got D-1000 too!  :)

And you got DeathWare!  That box used to be so common for under $10 new... you don't see them as much anymore though.  They are a very cool Shareware set for very inexpensive with box art that I really like.  I like to see a box with so many great shareware titles like that...Wolfenstein, DooM, Heretic, Duke Nukem 3D and Quake!  All my kind of games. ;)

Good to see your collection growing too. :)

Lovely cat. :P

Looks like we're about the same age/shape too.

I wish I had even HALF that space for my collections.

Age and shape... LOL!
Now I am pretty thin at about 73kg/160lbs and 1.87meters/6'2" in height.
I am just in from my labor job with my hair pulled back, so I am not at my best so to speak. :)  I don't have many pictures of myself, but since this one was in future computer room, I just put it in there.

Space!  Yes!  This is very lucky for me...  This is the house my grandfather built in the 1960's and left to me.  I have been working on it for over 3 years to make it more what I want. :)
I complete one room at a time and close the door then move on to the next room.  My old computer room was not this large but I was happy with it always and slept in there mostly too.  When I moved into this house about 2-1/2 years ago I started with more critical rooms first.
Now I will build my computer room... finances are on hold while I change jobs however.  I will be doing small things that I already have resources for however.  First I will buy two new doors and wall up around the back of the fireplace.  Then I will be adding wiring and lighting.  The room will be lit with little convetional lighting.  The primary lighting for the room will be 320 watts of Ultraviolet light.  I like glow in the dark stuff and Fluorescent paint. :)  All the indirect lighting in the room will be red as to reduce the effect on dark/night vision which makes the game screens higher contrast... I learned in my last computer/game room to remove all light sources besides monitors for best gaming.  Glare can ruin a fun game.  Unless someone gets motion sick... then turn on white light!
All is still plans... all the above is a long way off as I work too many hours most weeks though.
I will keep updating here as things progress.
