Database errors when posting much BBC.
« on: May 23, 2010, 07:50:56 AM »
I've noticed several times that submitting posts containing a lot of BBC (Bulletin Board Code) causes errors with the database;

Error: "503 - Service Temporarily Unavailable".

 I don't know if this forum's software, Simple Machines Forum, is to blame for this or our webhost's database. I'll be posting this at the official SMF forums to see if anyone can help me with this.

Remember, we're running beta software here, SMF 2.0 RC3 is not a final product.

Update #1 (23-may-10);
I'm pretty sure it is not SMF causing this, the error indicates it is on server level and thus having nothing to do with SMF. I've send the webhost an e-mail about this.

Update #2 (25-may-10);
Customer service of our webhost can't help us with the issue. I'll try it with SMF support.

I am getting this same error when trying to post certain links, but it varies from what I can tell.
I would not let me post three links at once, but it let me post FOUR links one at a time.  Then the fifth link it would not let me post at all, so I added it to a following post.
Then in the second post it would not accept more than one of said link (with thumbnail) so I had to post stripped down urls.

Also I collect Shovelware/compilations/official add-ons for most PC FPS's. :)

Very odd and our webhost's customer service is also clueless about the problem. The only two issues known to them that could cause this is either an unoptimized database/table or a time-out error. Neither of these is the case. I'll try it with SMF support.

edit;
What heck? Watch this;

From time to time we come across auctions/ads that show that the seller doesn't really know what he/she is selling.  Feel free to post here about such things. I'll start.

And now it works. Odd.

I also got intermittent errors.  It would not let me post something I was trying to one day... then later when I came back it posted fine... exactly the same.  I had just pasted it somewhere else and tried again later, so I know the data was identical.

I guess it's clear by now that the database (or the connection) could act odd from time to time. Guess we just have to life with it.
