Steam
« on: April 08, 2011, 12:15:30 PM »
And here we have the general Steam thread!

Here's my page => http://steamcommunity.com/id/IggyID/

Question, how expensive is Borderlands GOTY in the US Steam? I would like to have the Steam release but it's 50 frigging euro for a German censored version while I can get a new sealed retail one from the UK for 20.

US$29,99 is about 21 euro. Bah. Anyone wanna gift the game to me when it's on Steam cheap? Like 10 to 15 bucks or so.

Borderlands GOTY is now $7,50 on Steam for US customers, € 12,50 for Europeans.

Just bought it myself from my work in the Netherlands which means I should have the uncensored version. It comes with DNF First Access Club code too.

There's no reason for plain statements like this without any explanation.

Not for everyone I don't think.  I have researched it a lot as a non-steam user.  My eventual determination after many hours or reading over weeks and typing with dozens of people over their experiences with Steam, was that it is the lesser of evils at worst.  For a lot of people it fits well.

I want big boxes and the ability to resell and be able to play my games forever.  I also do not play multi-player, and I don't need chat services.  I do not care about "achievements" for the most part.

So Steam is not for me... but game publishers, right or wrong, are going to use DRM services... and if I had to pick a service, I really can't see where Steam "sucks" as a blanket statement as that suggests its quality or service is poor, which I don't agree with based on evidence of research.

I am a Collector/Gamer who plays mostly FPS's, pre-WinXP, on PC and Consoles, but also play other types of classic games on consoles, handhelds, and Plug-n-Play systems. From Pong to GTA series.  I enjoy them all. :)
Also I collect Shovelware/compilations/official add-ons for most PC FPS's. :)

I had a Problem with a not-working-game, so i contacted the steam "support" after 6 !!! days i got an answer and it was "please reinstall the game" ... and in the text i wrote to the support told them that i had reinstalled the game 3 times and i didn´t help ... That´s (one) reason why Steam "sucks".

Sad for such an experience. But that form of response is very much a minority. Everytime I've had to contact STEAM support (which has been very minimal) I've received a response very quickly. Sometimes the same day I sent it.
And yes, their initial responses can be basic such as "Reinstall the game"... but that's because they have to work down a list of possible answers/problems. Sad but true, it's part of IT work... you absolutely have to go through every step. Because there are some people out there that need such assistance.

That's not STEAM's fault. That's basic IT work for any company.

A little note, the Steam forums got hacked;

Quote
Dear Steam Users and Steam Forum Users:

Our Steam forums were defaced on the evening of Sunday, November 6. We began investigating and found that the intrusion goes beyond the Steam forums.

We learned that intruders obtained access to a Steam database in addition to the forums. This database contained information including user names, hashed and salted passwords, game purchases, email addresses, billing addresses and encrypted credit card information. We do not have evidence that encrypted credit card numbers or personally identifying information were taken by the intruders, or that the protection on credit card numbers or passwords was cracked. We are still investigating.

We don’t have evidence of credit card misuse at this time. Nonetheless you should watch your credit card activity and statements closely.

While we only know of a few forum accounts that have been compromised, all forum users will be required to change their passwords the next time they login. If you have used your Steam forum password on other accounts you should change those passwords as well.

We do not know of any compromised Steam accounts, so we are not planning to force a change of Steam account passwords (which are separate from forum passwords). However, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to change that as well, especially if it is the same as your Steam forum account password.

We will reopen the forums as soon as we can.

I am truly sorry this happened, and I apologize for the inconvenience.

Gabe.
