Well, Duke Nukem was in the game room today to see the progress and play in the hand held game area a bit, so I took these pictures.

Duke really liked the Duke games of course... ;)

Here is an update for the top half of the game room. :)

Still sorting through boxes of games and systems and parts etc.  Much to do, but because I am finished with sawdust in the room now, I moved my FPS collection onto the shelves... kind of.  They didn't fit... like a lot more than I realized.  I did not have a dimension for every box of course, so I estimated it.  I knew I would have some that would not fit.  Currently I show 320 unique boxed FPS's and 47 duplicates.  I eliminated duplicates to save space in most cases.  The shelves are about 2 average boxes deep, so duplicates could be placed behind each other in most cases.  My original plan was to have some duplicate boxes displayed with the back out next to front view.  This only happened in one case I think.  I made many groups tight by displaying none of the duplicates and then eliminating many small boxes as well.  Duke Nukem being the main exception to the rule as there are non-First Person Shooters on the shelf with the Duke Nukem games.
I still have boxes of unique games that can't make it to the shelves like all of the Unreal collection for instance.  I might do another run of shelves across the middle of the room above the center computer table.  That would provide enough shelves to get all of my current 3D FPS collection up, but not the others... but I don't have a lot of others.  They aren't even cataloged actually.

Anyway... my original idea was to just put all the games on the shelves in alphabetial order like they are in the spreadsheet, but I realized there would be too many starts and stops in the collection turning corners and jumping from wall to wall around the room.  So I decided to keep the major collections together in strings and sacrifice the alphabetical order to do this.  So I put up the major groups first like DooM, Quake, Duke Nukem and Deer Hunter as follows...

The Quake collection fit perfectly in this corner above the Handheld Game area...

The DooM collection fit pretty well using the bottom three rows here.  To adjust the fit I can show or hid duplicates as can clearly be seen here.  Buy duplicates I mean minor variants like CD vs Floppy versions where the box art and design did not change.  No big deal to "miss" those.

Then Deer Hunter fit well here...

I used the top row in this case for Duke Nukem to shorten the length of the display as a whole...

Then the rest of the collection was placed alphbetically and just jumps the pre-placed collection sets... for the most part... then I ran out of shelves... but here is the current placement.  If I add more shelves in the room, this will change of course.

Well that was a huge step for sure... moving in is really fun!  :)

The next step will be cleanup from all of these systems and boxes followed by getting the Network up and getting some PC's moved in and set up.

Yes, dust will always be a problem.  I do have an air filtering machine to put in the room.  However... the air-conditioner in the room is going to make dust always a problem.  I will have to deal with it.  Dusting my boxes will be a pain for sure!  :)

Thanks for all the positive comments.  The tight-wire idea works really well.  Easy to get in and out.  Not sure if any of the images show it well, but all the boxes lean out at the top.  I added wire supports every 4 to 7 boxes depending on how much the boxes put on the wire.

That was a great thing to see this morning when I walked into the room.  I knew I didn't dream of having done it, only to wake up and realize I had not.  :)

Big step for sure... at least visually.  Only took a day to do it if you think about it.  Been working on the actual room since March I think.

I will keep posting pictures as I go.

Thanks to the people on this site for being positive and supportive... it is nice to have others who appreciate these things to share the with.  My family just thinks I am crazy... even if they are right, it is still nice to have other crazy people to share my collection with. ;)

Now... I still have three boxes full of FPS's left and hundreds of CD's... what to do.  I am glad I have worked hard enough to have these problems and not other problems. :)

Well, I have been busy with many things including working on the game room... It is NOT finished, but I have been using it a LOT in the last couple of months.  I have not made any seating at this time.  In each area, chair or benches will be made which will be mass storage for additional games.  All the boxes you see in images under the counter tops are what goes in that area that I could not get out and is planned to be stored elsewhere.
So far, these parts that are functional...
1. Handheld Game Area.
I have a monitor and speakers there for Media Players and about half a dozen of my handhelds that have video out, like the PSP.  Also, ready to play or demonstrate at any time as most every model of GameBoy from original to GBM with all link cables, GameBoy Camera, and Printer.
At the right I have chargers for basically everything that can be charged set up and waiting.  The computer turns off all of the charging transformers when not in use to preserve them.
In this area I also have wristwatches that are game or media related.
I do not keep handhelds which play full size console cartridges in this area.

2. I also have the Vintage Console area set up and working well, with the exception of some of the storage which will be done in the bench I create for seating.
In this area, set up and ready to play at any time:
Left - PS1, Super NES, NES, Sega Saturn, Sega Genesis W/32bit, Sega CD.
Right - Nintendo 64, Panasonic 3DO, Atari Jaguar, Sega DreamCast, Family Boy NES (modern), Retro Duo NES-SNES (modern), HyperScan, Nintendo GameCube.
I believe I have most of the controllers for every system, but I was unable to have them all out, so some are still stored.  I kept out the ones I use the most and the others are nearby...  I have the Menacer (Genesis) and the SuperScope Six (SNES) boxed, but ready under the table.  I have game taps for most all the systems and the idea was to keep most of the controllers hooked up for use, but due to cable tangle issues and conflicts between different controllers and such, I scrapped the whole idea and it ended up as shown now.  It still doesn't take long to swap a controller, so it turned out to not be as important as I thought.

3. Next is the Plug and Play game area along with other game types... I keep three Hybrid systems here that are Handheld and Console modern systems which play old full size game cartridges.  The RetroGen (Plays Genesis), the FC Mobile II (plays NES), and a second Generation Yobo FC16 Go (plays SNES).
There are two drawers for the Plug-n-Play games (only one opens at a time) with a total of 45 games, but I won't list them as they are not likely of interest to others here.

4. Then there is the more modern console area...
Here is a PS2 and XBox and the associated disks and a few DVDs.  Because my PS2 plays PS1 Games, I keep PS1 games here as well.  The PS1 in the Vintage Game area is only used for controllers that are not compatible with my PS2 like the RC Car controller and a couple of others.
Also, this area is used for most of my Duke Nukem "other" items.  I made the table wide enough for a big screen I would like to have some day. :)  Until then it will hold my Duke Nukem items.  The two display boxes you can see on each side of the Television will have speakers mounted inside them soon.  I plan to paint a yellow Nuke Symbol on the black grills used.  Although I will loose some of the box art in doing this, it is only one side of the boxes, and it makes the boxes really useful as they are rather large. :)

I should have room here for a 360 and a PS3 in the future... I almost always stay a few years behind.  I am not in a hurry for gaming.  :)

Miscellaneous
Here is what I did with my Duke Nukem Standee and a couple of posters.  :)

The NOT finished stuff...

My work area.  This is where I plan to build, test, and work on PC's and other related items.

You might notice most of the racks are empty and there are no PC's running other than my modern notebooks.  At this time I have just started working on my PC network and 12 PC's are to be used for storage, modern gaming (WinXP and 7), vintage gaming (DOS/Win)

The empty table in this image will be used for three gaming PC's.

The purpose and focus of this room is to have as many games and systems available at any time.  So many years I dragged boxes of this and that from here to there... damaging things sometimes.  But now, if I only have a few minutes, I can still have time to play because I no longer have setup times to worry about.

Well, I guess that is enough for now.

**edit**

It is difficult to get accurate images in UV light, so I edited these slightly to have more of the appearance of what it really looks like.

***edit***
Here is what I did with my Duke Nukem 3D Statue today.  Safe from dust and the cats.

I just wrapped some Styrofoam with black felt and wrapped it about three times with black electrical tape... printed out some Duke Nukem logos and glued them on there.  Made a nice stage for it I think. :)
I already had the box and it was a bit tall as it was made for 12" (30cm) figures really... so I added the "stage" to make look like it fit better.

Here is why I have not been gaming much lately...

Here we go...
In order to get Keystone Plates like THESE...

All around the room, into THESE...

And wired back to 4 of THESE...

My room looks like... this...

I have pulled almost 1000 feet of Cat5e, run over 200 feet of network conduit (mostly blue flex, exposed, but still takes time)  In addition to this, there is minor phone and network wiring going on in rest of the house.  I have been pulling, plotting, and punching down wires, slowly but surely, for weeks.  I am starting to wonder if I will ever get to do any gaming in here!  :)

Well... I always wanted this floor... which was recently destroyed as the floor was replaced by the new owners of the building.  :(  I was told it was marble (fragile) and could not be removed without breaking most of it.
The original may be gone, but I am making a copy for the game room.

Original...

I will post pictures in a few days.  :)

So 3D Realms have left their old building? It is a shame such a thing would have to be destroyed but you can't save everything.

Yep... the building was sold.  It has a very "over" feel to it.  :(

I am doing what I can to preserve it in my game room however.  :)

That nuke floor is lovely, and with that porcelain statue is like a Duke Nukem temple to worship him.
