Handheld Games
« on: May 21, 2010, 03:00:25 AM »
I don't know who here collects and plays handheld systems, but I do.  I started the thread because I know that many gamers simply don't use handhelds, so I felt this needed to be seperate from another thread... but that is my opinion.  Iggy can/will move it where he sees fit. :)

Handheld game systems! =)
I have all the popular ones:  PSP, NDS, GBA, GBSP, GBM, GBC, GBL, GBP, GB, Sega Game Gear, NeoGeo Pocket Color, WonderSwan Color, Tiger Game.Com, Tapwave Zodiac 2, and some others...

One system I never had, never saw, never played was the Atari Lynx.  Well a few months ago, I started up on the Lynx.  I read, researched, dug, asked, looked, on and on... as I always do when I consider something new.  I learned a great deal and bought one.  I like it. It has maybe Nintendo level functionality... No review though.  I really haven't thought that one out.
Well there are two models... Lynx and Lynx II.  This isn't actually official, but they are quite different.  (the both play all games)  With the Lynx II, the shape changed, the battery life improved, the screen improved and there are other differences you can easily find all over the net.
After I got my excellent condition boxed Lynx II, I liked it.  Then it was time to get some games, accessories, and anything that was made for a Lynx.  With consoles and Handhelds, I buy every reasonably priced controller and accessory that was made for the given unit.  Every controller and some games that go with them are a must for me with consoles.  For handhelds, I get every magnifier, light, grip, game changer, etc etc.  Just my nature. These things for the Lynx were not the cheapest in the world...
To close this story, this eBay deal is what I got.  It was less expensive than I could even buy the games for on eBay… and I now have a second Lynx II for the multi-player games of which there are several.

Mine came with the Lynx II boxed(not shown or expected) and it looks absolutely new as far as I can tell.  It is not possible to tell the unit was even played.  Everything else in the set was just as described.  New and Boxed.  All these games, new and boxed.  I hate to even open these things, but it was so inexpensive to jump into this system with this deal.  This is an on-going deal with this seller, but it can’t last long I wouldn’t think.
So if you ever considered a Lynx I don’t believe you will find a better deal than this...

Here is something that looks really good for a TapWave Zodiac 2... I only have a few games for mine, but they include Duke Nukem Mobile and DooM II. :)

I am a Collector/Gamer who plays mostly FPS's, pre-WinXP, on PC and Consoles, but also play other types of classic games on consoles, handhelds, and Plug-n-Play systems. From Pong to GTA series.  I enjoy them all. :)
Also I collect Shovelware/compilations/official add-ons for most PC FPS's. :)

I play on my Nintendo DS before going to bed each night and it's always Mario Kart. I was eagerly waiting for the new Duke Nukem Trilogy to be released so I finally had a reason to play some with my PSP and DS but NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO................

Games for the PSP and DS are, besides a very few, quite damn boring.

Well... I know how you feel about that and maybe even more.
I bought my DS and PSP both since the Duke Nukem Trilogy was announced.  Silly?  Stupid?  Not really as I play a lot of games others think are boring, immature or silly.  The delay of the Duke Nukem Trilogy is really a slap in the face for me after the announcement that it would be released in Sept of 2009 directly by Terri N of Apogee.  Even 3D Realms added to this with the announcement that the issues with 3D Realms at the time of the development team release would not effect the Duke Nukem Trilogy.  Maybe it didn't and the delays are justifiably unrelated, but WE DON'T KNOW THAT!  Why?!  Because they haven't told us a damn thing for months!
A company that makes declarations of intention to the public and then changes them should give some reason why in my opinion.  Do they not realize that they are damaging at least some of their customer base?  Even if they aren't, because there are so few of us in contact with the development, all these news sites DO follow.  To not give an explanation, real or not, is unprofessional and unacceptable to me.
Interesting... I am angry.  Hmmm.
I guess I expect them to be a real company... like I have said with some level of aggression over at 3D Realms... How long would it take to type even a LIE on your web site?  Not quoting myself from 3D Realms, this is off the cuff.  "We know you fans are STARVING for the king of First Person Shooters to rid your Nintendo DS and PSP handhelds of Alien Scum!  Duke says 'What are you waitn' for?  Christmas?'... we aren't waiting for Christmas, but to include as many features as possible, we have extended the release date just a little longer, but don't worry!  It will be worth it!  Apogee"

Now see how easy that was?
Some employee of Apogee could go dump that on their site, true or not and make a huge difference in the attitude of a small buy key group of people... and then all those gaming sites would have an official word to pick up.  Is just BS in my opinion.

Ok... I am through bitching for now.  I am kind of curious, and I love to be corrected when I am wrong or have a limited point of view, so anyone’s input would be appreciated.  Am I missing something or is this too much to ask of Apogee?
One reason I say this is because the Apogee guys DID interact with the fans right at the beginning of the sites opening... then it went away.  I don't understand.
