this Doom went for alot.. now am still learning about doom. This i think is the medium size box. I have seen the large boxes go for alot but was surprised to see this one go for so much.

I have seen them go for more than that depending on condition and who was buying etc... the patch disk also increased the value for that one.
I don't know much about a Big Box other than the Shareware Big Box, but there is a certain member on this board who I know will provide more concise information than I know. ;)

Yes, this one went for a lot. I was watching it and even wanted to make a bid but it was already beyond what I wanted to pay so I let it go. (I already have a few of v1.1 and by the looks of it my best one is a bit better than this one). The reason it went so high is probably because of the good condition. For as far as I can tell, the version of Doom does not really determine the final price. Like MrBlackCat said, the patchdisk may play part in the high bid although Doom 1.1 without the patchdisk is seen less often than with. (Maybe dr-mett-wurst won this, he did mention he wanted a good condition v1.1)

What you saw in the auction was the mail order, the box is almost the size of a full box but a bit less wide and a lot thinner. There is no real 'big box' Doom available in US format. Only the Australian Doom is full size. Oh and of course the shareware by GT interactive.

Bet me... some day we will be telling our grandchildren about how games used to come in BOXES!  And you could buy these in stores and on the internet for less than $20!
They won't believe it... :)

Everything will soon be all digital I am afraid... and we will wish we had bought every box or otherwise game on eBay and kept them to show others and sell.

Hmm... I don't have a DooM small Shareware box yet... :)
But I probably will.  At least I have my original DooM and Heretic mail order boxes. :)

this is the original doom right lol. dam doom is confusing. See i thought there was big boxes but now i guess that is only the Australian release. Now am guessing that this box in this thread is not a shareware but the first doom.
So 1.1 and 1.2 came in the same box.

Hehehe... sorry to add to confusion.  As far as I know the only big box doom games are the GT Interactive SHAREWARE and then an AU Big Box Full Version release which I have never seen and was told about as some point.  But Omega_Supreme knows all of this by heart and with much more authority than myself.

The Shareware box is a little different... like this one that Iggy Sold.  Awesome, but it went low.  Too bad for Iggy. :(  [ebay]230535170663[/ebay]

Strange... I think I paid about $12 for mine new.  I am not sure why that cost so much.  Too bad I don't have any extras. :)  I think Iggy has one... maybe he will remember if this item was expensive.

I don't remember them ever going for more than $40 or I would likely remember it.  It is a boxed version of the 3D Game Alchemy for DooM 1&2, Heretic and Hexen.
The shipping might cost that much! Is a big heavy book... 700 pages. ;)

Here it is on Amazon in used condition, with box and CD for $21.98+ Shipping.

I just checked my records, I got it on June 25 last year for the price of 14,15 euro. It is still in a sealed condition.

Is that one that I was involved in somehow?  I know I traded someone one of mine or something... I don't remember details right off.
I had a sealed one at some point... maybe two.  And I don't see one now, so I am guessing I sold it or traded it maybe.

I was checking my boxes and i do have  level Volume 2 for Doom, Doom2,Hexen and Heretic
First question is there a Volume 1?
second question is ..I also have 3DAlchemy Doom, Doom2,Hexen and Heretic..The books i have in these two Boxes are the same. Both covers look like the 3d Alchemy cover.
Ok back to my second question.. Is this correct that both of these books (alchemy and Level Master Vol2) should be the same?
lol did they take the same book and just package it in different boxes? hmmm

I did notice that Level master 2 is published by Macmillan Digital and 3d alchemy is published by Sams publishing..
So i just wanted to make sure the book in my level masters box was correct. (same book as 3d Alchemy)

That is a good question... (duh, I am drawing a blank!)

The Level Master series was for different types of games.

Level Master I... can't remember that one, but it was not for First Person Shooters.
Level Master II is for DooM engine stuff.
Level Master III is for WarCraft.
Level Master IV is for Diablo.
Level Master V is for Quake... and is the last in the series as far as I know.
